About SEAMS
Founded 2002
SEAMS Ltd started as a university enterprise spin-out company from the University of Sheffield, UK. Retaining our roots in Sheffield and with close links to the University and other academic institutions around the country, SEAMS has developed what was a research project in to a commercially successful industry tool, WiLCO.
The spin-out
During the 1990's the English and Welsh water industry underwent a radical change; moving from a public to private utility. In order to support the transition, the regulator 'Office of Water Services (Ofwat)' applied a set of principles for how the newly privatised industry must justify investment on its assets in order to set customer bills. The principles were based on a common framework encompassing historical analysis, forward-looking models, and continual improvement in data, how investment decisions are made, and management practices to deliver service to customers. SEAMS provided a software solution to this enabling companies to generate business plans at lower costs and saving time in the process.
Commercial success
SEAMS Ltd quickly identified a market for a robust, repeatable software package to enable data to be analysed for any asset type in order to provide decision-support for executive teams. Taking many of the principles developed in the water industry, SEAMS now offer an off-the-shelf software product which is being used by transport, energy, local authorities, government agencies, and academics to plan out infrastructure investments.
Company Growth
Our Head Office remains in Sheffield, employing 35 staff formed of software developers, professional services, and business support. We retain a strong client base who enable us to continually improve the software product, which in turn enables SEAMS to grow in new markets including North America, Middle East, and Europe.
