SEAMS staff get up to some monkey business
SEAMS development manager, Matthew Kiggins organised a high wire forest adventure for SEAMS’ Technology Department.
The adventure was a stimulating team building day at Go Ape! in Buxton, Derbyshire. The objective of this event was to explore and develop team interactions in a challenging environment.
The event supported the Spirits of Seams which brings together SEAMS values and capabilities that are recognised as critical to the future success of the organisation. Building Organisational Capability was recognised as the core for this event as it was a means to develop team skills and motivate others beyond their expectations.
Time to do some Monkey Business!
The Go Ape! Experience got everyone’s adrenalin pumping with a range of exhilarating activities that were both physically and psychologically demanding and required a high degree of cohesion and close team work.
The activities were based around huge obstacles up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made up of wood, rope, super strong wire and zip lines including the longest at 426 metres. People were then let loose into the forest canopy were they faced challenging tasks including balancing water on a wobbly bridge 20m above ground, target practice whilst whizzing down a zip wire at 20 miles per hour and not forgetting the Tarzan Swing to get people to step out of their comfort zone and into the void.
The team building day was excellent for team morale and delivered valuable lessons about team working. A follow up session back in the office will assess the impact of the event on the team and the way it works.
The overall Go Ape experience was a successful exercise for SEAMS staff that delivered tangible rewards in a challenging yet fun environment.
